If you are looking to buy a small laptop then there are some important facts you should know in order to make the right purchase. What you think may be a bargain may end up just being a waste of money whether it doesn't do what you long for it to.

Firstly just what is a small laptop? Well we have a group of laptops which are known as sub-laptops or more commonly now netbooks. The typical characteristics of these computers are that they are much smaller than their adult size counterparts. They are designed specifically for those who just want to utilize the basics such as internet and email and do other online activities. Therefore they are designed to be a little more portable and have a longer battery so they can be taken on trips. Their larger laptop cousins utilizing their 17 inch plus screens are typically far too heavy to bring any distance.

The key difference is that often netbooks are essentially lessen versions of laptops designed primarily for online based computing. Although they are capable of doing most everything a complete size laptop are capable of doing the smaller screen, keyboard and reduced processing power ensures that any hefty computing could be cumbersome.

The main important things about a small portable computer is that you could get access to emails and the internet on the go. These computers are often small enough to fit right large pocket or handbag and are not particularly heavy which makes them easy to carry. For you to manage to access the internet on the go you will need internet access. This is successfully done via WI-FI or which has a USB mobile dongle, many newer models will have this dongle built into to laptop casing itself rather than having it as some other accessory.

One thing to recollect about netbooks is the fact that screens will be smaller which means a smaller display resolution. Should the resolution or the amount of pixels that can be displayed on the screen should be to low then it could make it problematic when viewing internet pages and checking email. My tip should be to go for a model which has a small screen size but can display at a decent resolution. The higher the resolution the better.

Unlike larger laptops, smaller laptops and netbooks really do not run the latest version of Windows. Typically you might find many running Windows 7 or a version of Linux. You will need to know that you may not manage to run your favourite applications and games or your documents if you buy a Linux version. So many people are also used to Windows and so they may find Linux a lttle bit alien to them, although Linux is a useful one only go for this when you are specifically looking for becoming a feature.

Consider the battery life of the unit, many models can run for 9+ hours before needing a recharge. Generally even so the longer the battery life the bigger the battery and this will make the whole unit considerably heavier. Lithium batteries are often one of the heaviest components within a portable computer.

Lastly make sure that you are not buying a model that's too underpowered for you. You will need to take into account the processor for speed, the RAM for running applications smoothly and the storage space. It is a case of finding a balance between cost and functionality.
